We got a great start. Possibly 4th over the line. Winds were quite light but strengthened as we headed west. Before we knew it we were flying close to hull speed and keeping up with the faster cats. Great fun for a couple of hours. Then the wind dropped to a couple of Kts. We were in a weird pocket of no wind and we could see other boats a couple of nautical miles away blasting past us. Agghhh! We managed to get out of that area but then the wind was westerly right on our nose and seas were very confused. Completely opposite of what the forecast was predicting.
As the sun set the winds went back behind us. We didn’t have much sail out at night as if winds went crazy and unpredictable again and we only have a single crew member at the helm, we wanted to remain in full control.
Other boats blew past us in the night and in the morning we were 78th place overall. We have a lot of catching up to do.
