DESTINATION: Aeolian Islands
LOCATION: Vulcano

Vulcano Venturing

After a two day sail along the foot of Italy’s ‘boot’ we made it around the ‘toe’ to get to Vulcano where we anchored and had a good rest.

Though Vulcano has a name that suggests a very active geological disposition, it isnt as active as its other Aeloian neighbor ‘Stromboli’.

Rested, beautiful sunset and on our way the next day.

Destination: Vulcano!

As we sat at anchor we could clearly see Mt Etnas volcanic plum all the way across on Sicily.

Vulcano is one of the 7 Aeolian islands and a smell of sulphur wafts at you as you approach from downwind.

The main activity when you arrive is to hike the crater with a fantastic view of the other six islands at the top.
Other things to try are;

  • A walking tour to Vulcanello, Cape Grillo, and to the Grand Crater.
  • An island boat tour with stops at the Grotta del cavallo and at Vulcano Gelso.
  • Visit the alum caves and the fumeroles and hot springs in Levante Bay
Hire an experienced professional to show you the Aeolian Islands!
