Last night we had an interesting event. Bioluminescence! It was magical. Very late in the night the hull disturbed hundreds of tiny marine creatures that each gave off a bright blue light. When sailing through them this gave us a ‘Pixie Dust’ lit up trail behind the boat for about 60 ft. It only lasted a couple of hours unfortunately.
Lighter winds today but we still maintained a reasonable speed directly towards Cape Verde. I think we may have picked up a few places too in the rankings.
A pod of about a dozen dolphins joined us today as well. I guess yesterdays dolphins had such a good time that they invited their buddies back!
More breakage again today arghh but at least the radar is still hanging on. The arms to the boom brake have completely disintegrated. More to fix in Mindelo.
Land Ho! At approx 1740 we were watching a beautiful sunset when Kira realized that below it was land. After being at sea for almost a week and sailing almost 900nm our destination approaches (though it is still about 6 hours away). Currently it looks like we will get in just after midnight if the wind holds.
More tomorrow!
