Well, we gybed and decided to steer closer to the rhumb line. We turned off the auto pilot too and hand steered trying to surf down waves. Very quickly we started to gain distance on the boats nearby. Woo-hoo, we had found another ‘gear’. Good winds and a following sea, this is what offshore sailing is all about! In 24 hours we have moved from about 40th position in the fleet (of 95 boats) to 29th place. Most other boats are way to the east of us and we can’t figure out why. Something we don’t know?
