Gran Canaria – Road Trip

While in Gran Canaria we thought it would be a great idea to see more of the island after being a week at sea and book a rental car to explore. Everyone thought it was a great idea so we did!

First on the list was visiting Hotel Riu for a fabulous buffet brunch courtesy of Karin. Karin and her Mum (and Lea) had many special happy memories when they stayed together here many many years ago and she wanted to visit it one more time. John and I had never visited it nor the famous sand dunes behind it so we made a bee line there. Karin was not mistaken and it was a fabulous place and a real brunch treat. Fatulous food, fabulous company and fabulous weather.

After that its back in the car and down to Puerto de Morgan on the south western corner of the island. Beautiful little port and beach beside it.

We still had a lot of driving to so so I got back behind the wheel and proceeded inland and up over the highest peak of the island. Weird strange Dobermans that looked like half starved mad scientists lab experiment dogs with chain colors frolicked beside the cads a we crested the hill. A quick fill up with gas and then we were looking for the next stop.

There was supposed to be an arts festival happening in the small remote hilltop village of ‘Teror’. It took us a while to get there and by the time we got there the party was over and everyone was packing up. It was still a great place to visit with lovely old building and a huge village square in front of a large church. Lots of small artisan shops were spread out around the square and it would have been nice to have spent more time there.

Back to Las Palmas and then we made good use of the car and went out to a nice dinner further way from the Marina,.
