We headed for Calp departing at 0720 and arriving at 1600. It was a long day motoring in good conditions.
It was a great little marina. On the way there we heard a broadcast on channel 16 from the Spanish coastguard to be on the lookout for immigrant boats from Africa trying to cross over to Spain. They were very specific about the number of people on them so they must have had some previous intell or a sighting from another boat. We kept an eye out for them but didn’t see any. How would we know an immigrant boat from any other if we saw one? Do they fly a special flag? 🙂
Cruising to Calp!
Calp is actually a pretty big city. If you stayed only in the small marina like we did you would not know this. Long days made us less inclined to explore a lot when we got to a destination, and if we didn’t have a day in hand or a larger weather window of a few more days meant we had to push on. We needed to get to Gibraltar to pick up John and then we needed to be ready to leave Gib when the opportunity arose otherwise we may be stuck there a while.
Attractions we missed seeing while at Calp were;
- The ruins of Els banyas de la reina (the queen’s baths)
- The flooded salt flats, a bird sanctuary for migratory birds
- Gothic Catholic church
- 18th-century tower of La Peça.
