Mallorca’s Northern Coast

We headed around to the northern and headed west to St Elm, on Majorca. This allowed us a closer stepping stone to sail to the next Beleric island of Ibiza. Beautiful coastline with very small ports and anchorages along the way. If we had more time we would have tried to visit each one of them.

All of the hillsides were very green and we motored all the way as there was no wind with some nice music playing on the cockpit sound system. When we arrived it was a very busy anchorage with a lot of day trippers, but we had reserved a mooring ball and was met by a marinero who gave us the line. Very nice, very convenient.

Great weather and though a lot of day trippers it quieted down at night. No sleep as the swell was against the wind. Very, very rolly!

Coastal Cruising Mallorca

The capital of Mallorca, Palma was named after a Roman camp called Palmaria. History reveals it had many sackings by the Vandals during the fall of the Western Roman Empire. It was later reconquered by the Byzantines, established by the Moors, and finally occupied by James I of Aragon.

The island has a lot of caves above and below the sea. Two of the caves above sea level located near the eastern coastal town of Porto Cristo contain underground lakes and you are able to take tours there.
