DESTINATION: Ionian Islands
LOCATION: Gaios

Gaios

We departed Lefkas marina for Gaios. Five hours motoring for the leg and to start it off we needed to be at the bridge at 0700. The bridge is interesting as it isn’t really a bridge, but a barge that swivels between two roads each side of the river.  The bridge is only open on the hour for a few hours each day and if you don’t get in line, you need to wait at least another hour. Departed at 0650 from the marina. Arrived at 1204 at Gaios, and berthed stern two with anchor in front of a noisy bar/restaurant. Water and electricity didn’t work at the dock but it was only 27 euros per night (collected by a lovely official called ‘Elena’.

Gaios is a great place so we decided to spend another day there. Bought 96 packs of water from a supermarket and had the big tent up for both days draped over the boom shading the deck, keeping the deck and cabin cool. Super yacht charterers we first met in Milos came by to say hello and gave us their contact information (Wences C.). Really nice guy.,  Heard back from Adrianne and Martin. They got to Corfu in their new boat and left our new InstantPot and vacuum bags at Harrys Taverna in Corfu just outside Gouvia Marina and Corfu also. Woohoo! We also found someone with a new Garmin rudder sensor replacement that should fix the auto pilot. Just have to figure out where and when to meet him. Very noisy, hot, humid night.
