Kyparissia

Departed Methoni at 0610 for Kyparissia arriving at 1045.  Anchored side two in the Kyparissia harbor, saw two turtles and many greenhouses on the way. Greenhouses were everywhere along the coast seemingly growing most of the produce consumed by Greece. Very flat with no wind and swell waves on the way. Lunch ashore, thought problems with autopilot displaying. Message on the chart plotter shows ‘Rudder Requires Recalibration’ – not good!.  I thought all was OK, but later on, we realized it was not.

The actual harbor looks barren and deserted and very unappealing, but as you go up the slope you discover the rest of the town, very vibrant and inviting. Had a great lunch in a corner cafe with a lot of ‘old boys’ paying dominoes and having a great social time. Later in the evening we took at taxi up the top of the hill we most of the better restaurants were. Great food and spectacular food!

One of the taxi drivers just might have been ‘El Chapos’ brother hiding out in anonymity. I will never know!

DESTINATION: Kyparissia

Kyparissia is located in the Peloponnese region of southern Greece on a hill overlooking the Ionian Sea and offers magnificent views of the coastline. It is a brisk 20 minute walk up a steep slope to the main square underneath the towns church. The main attraction in Kyparissia is the castle just up from the church in the old town. The ancient castle ruins has a small amphitheater and is free to visit but is not always open.
